2. I do, however, believe that she is unfit to be host of Woman’s Hour
Whilst I do not agree with the silencing of right wing views, I do not think that someone that holds such long standing and exclusionary views is a good fit to host such an internationally iconic, publically funded radio show.
This might seem like I am being a hypocrite, given my previous point, but when you compare this to right wing loudmouth and transphobe, Katie Hopkins, being a columnist for the Daily Mail and having a slot on LBC or indeed to Germaine Greer being allowed to give a lecture, there is a clear difference: I can choose not to buy the Daily Mail or attend Germaine Greer’s lectures. In the UK, we are legally required to fund the BBC through our TV license tax.
I would have no issue with the BBC allowing her to appear from time to time as a panelist, but to publicly humiliate transgender women and be allowed to continue to be the face of the BBC on women’s issues as host of Womans Hour is in poor taste. This is no different to Jeremy Clarkson’s loutish behaviour and equally unacceptable.
The BBC should invite her to step aside and go completely or take a guest presenter position.
